There are several things that you should keep in mind when selecting article directories to submit your articles to. 

First of all, you should consider the amount of time that the article directory has been in existence.

Newly created article directories probably will not get much traffic which will result in your articles not getting many page views.

Second, you should consider how long it takes the site to approve your articles.  There is no point in submitting an article to a directory and the directory never even bothers to post your article on its website. 

Ideally, the article directory should approve your articles in 24 hours or less.

Third you should also try to select article directories that allow affiliate links.

This way you can post some articles that contain links directly to the product that you are selling if you do not plan to develop an authoritative website for your article marketing campaign.

Last you should try to choose article directories that don’t have the nofollow tag for the links that you include in your articles.

By using sites that do not put this tag on the links in your articles, the links that you place in your site will help to influence the search engine ranking for your site.

However if you are using your affiliate link in an article to sell a product, this looks very unprofessional.

Readers would prefer to be taken to a link that will easily show the name of the site that they are being taken to instead of some obscure domain that they are not familiar with.

Using your own domain for affiliate links also helps to create the idea that your site is an authoritative site.

Also what are you going to do if the third-party site goes out of business?  All the links that you spent time creating with tinyurl will be useless!

Aside from the third party linking services, there are also sites out there that are trying to charge you a subscription or a one time fee for link cloaking software.

Don’t even waste your time with these programs.  The money that you are wasting on these programs could be spent on purchasing your own domain.

And when you are ready, you can begin to build yourself a website on your domain.  If you waste the money on the cloaking software, all you have is expensive software that you don’t even need.
